Is my finger dislocated?

Hi. Yesterday, while playing rugby, i felt my little finger bend and when i looked up at it immediatly it had gone a light blue colour and little red dots started apearing on the inside of my middle knuckle. it hurt like hell but i carried on playing and the pain went away after a while. However when i got home i found that it had swolen to the size of my middle finger? so i left it overnight to see if it would get better (i know - idiot) but anyway it had stayed the same size but was now black and blue around the middle knuckle and had about 6 tiny blobs of red colour under the skin in the same place? Can someone tell me whats probably wrong with it? the top of my finger (top knuckle upwards) is bent at a 45 degree angle i dunno if its just the swelling

It only really hurts when i bend it

That doesn't sound like a fracture, but you probably dislocated it, bruising the joint. If it popped right back in place and feels very swollen, I would build a splint to go from the finger tips to near the elbow. Let the whole hand rest, see if you can give it a good stretch and pop everything back into alignment. You'll be amazed how well it will feel after a couple days of not burdening the hand at all.

If you suspect a lack of blood flow or anything seems very wrong, go to the E.R. immediately. Even if it's a fracture you have about a week to get it set before it starts to heal wrong.
