What You Should Know About Ferret Colors

Numerous ferret colors exist. If your purpose for owning a ferret is to show it then you need to understand about these various colors. However, when you just own a ferret for a pet these colors are not as important. Read on to learn what information you need to know on the colors that ferrets can come in.

Normally, you can find these animals in 8 ferret colors. The following are these colors: albino, black sable, chocolate, black, sable, dark-eyed white, cinnamon, and champagne. Below is the description of these colors so that you will have a deep understanding of them.

Black sable can be described as a blackish brown. This has the black strongly on top of the brown guard hairs. This ferret coloring needs to have a white or the cream undercoat. The eyes need to be as dark brown as possible almost black in fact. The color of the nose should be very close to black. Speckled noses are alright with this color too.

With the albino color means the ferret doesn't have any pigment. The guard hairs and the undercoat is whit or cream. No patterning exists with this type of coloring either. The eyes should be red in color and the nose need to be pink in color. This color is an interesting color to buy a ferret in.

Black ferrets should have shiny-black guard hairs with a white or gold undercoat. The eyes and nose should be black. Their noses could also be speckled.

Ferrets that are chocolate colored are brown. It is better for these ferrets to have a white undercoat than to have a gold undercoat which is also accepted though. The eyes should be burgundy or milk-chocolate brown. Their nose needs to be beige, pink, or a rusty orange.

The color champagne is basically a chocolate watered down. This means this color a lighter shade. It is preferred that this color has a white or cream undercoat for the ferrets in the show ring. Their noses need to be a similar color to the noses of the chocolate ferrets.

Dark brown is what sable is. These ferrets should have their guard hairs in deep brown along with whitish cream or gold undercoats. The eyes should be very dark brown. The nose should be light brown; however, speckled noses are okay for shows too.

Now with a dark-eyed white color of ferret is white or cream but with pigment dissimilar to an albino. The body is white, the eyes are burgundy, and the noses are pink. This color is a very interesting look, when it comes to ferret colors.

Cinnamon ferrets have brown tone hair with lightly reddish touch on their guard hairs. The reddish touch sets this color apart from the color of champagne. These ferrets need a golden undercoat but the color white can be accepted too with eyes in any burgundy shade light or dark. The nose needs to be beige, pink, or light orange and have an outline that is t-shaped in the color light brown. For the show rings a plain pink will not work.
