Can you help me with this hockey rule question?
Ok, it's near the end of the game, and a team has the goalie pulled for an extra skater. A member of the other team gets off a clean breakaway on the empty net. A member of the team that has pulled the goalie hauls down the other player to save a sure goal, clearly a penalty shot situation.
Does the goalie come back in for a penalty shot?
Does the penalized team take a penalty shot on an empty net?
Does the penalized team just get awarded a goal?
it would be an automatic goal.
Rule57.4 Awarded Goal - If, when the opposing goalkeeper has been removed from the ice, a player in control of the puck in the neutral or attacking zone is tripped or otherwise fouled with no opposition between him and the opposing goal, thus preventing a reasonable scoring opportunity, the Referee shall immediately stop play and award a goal to the attacking team.
